The fire department and its chief, acting through its officers and firefighters, shall be responsible throughout the city for the protection of life and property from damage or loss due to fire or other hazardous conditions and to provide emergency medical care to the injured, through measures including, but not limited to:

A. The development and administration of public education, fire prevention and injury prevention programs:

B. Fire and safety inspections of buildings and proposed building plans;

C. The development, administration and enforcement of all applicable state and city laws, statutes, ordinances, codes and regulations;

D. Fire suppression;

E. Fire rescue;

F. Post investigation of fires to determine cause and origin and assist in the prosecution of arson cases; (Ord. 2002-02-003, 2-7-2002)
