A. General Duties: The council shall perform such other duties as are or may be prescribed by the statutes of this state or by the provisions of this code, and shall perform such other acts and take such other measures, not inconsistent with law, as may be necessary for the efficient government of the city.

B. Create Offices: The council may create any office they may deem necessary for the government of the city, and provide for filling vacancies in elective and appointive offices, and prescribe the powers, duties and compensation of all officers of the city, except as otherwise provided by law.

C. Bond Required:

1. The mayor and city council members shall each execute a bond with good and sufficient sureties, payable to the city in the amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00), conditioned for the faithful performance of the duties of the respective elected officers and the payment of all monies received by such officer according to law and the ordinances of the city.

2. The premium charged by a corporate surety for the elected officers’ bonds required herein shall be paid by the city.

3. The bonds of the council members shall be approved by the mayor and the bond of the mayor shall be approved by the council at the first meeting of the governing body in January following a municipal election. (1962 Code §§ 1-6-10, 1-6-11, 1-6-16; amd. 2003 Code)
