The building official will review all plans for new construction to ensure that unprotected cross connections are not an integral part of the owner’s water system. If a cross connection cannot be eliminated, protection will be required by installation of an air gap or other approved backflow prevention device or assembly, in accordance with the plumbing code. Water vacating the drinking water supply must do so by means of an approved air gap or mechanical backflow prevention device or assembly as required by said code. The owner shall provide the building official with verification of a certified test of the backflow prevention device or assembly before a certificate of occupancy is issued.
